Counseling Services

School Counseling Services at Parkway Manor

School Counselors provide a wide range of services to the school community.  Counseling, consultation, coordination, and assessment are the primary delivery methods in an effective school counseling program.

Our school counseling program is designed to provide all students with opportunities and resources to help them reach their goal of becoming contributing members of society.  The counseling program is developmental and systematic in nature and is delivered through large group, small group, and individual experiences.  The Parkland School District Counselors believe in the dignity and worth of all students and are committed to their role as advocates for students in the educational setting.

Individual Counseling

School counselors meet with students individually to facilitate their growth and development through the exploration of feelings and issues that are impacting their life.  Students can request “talk time” with meby asking their teacher.  Parents and teachers can also refer a student for individual counseling.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling (also known as “lunch bunch”) is a great way for students to learn together and develop a variety of skills in a small group setting. Students bring their lunch to my office where they learn skills in a fun environment! Common topics for small groups are: respect/responsibility, social skills, anger management, mindfulness, coping skills and friendship.

Classroom Lessons and Class Chats

Large group instruction offers an opportunity to provide support to the largest number of students in the school.  This is one of my favorite things to do because I truly value the “face time” I get with all the students. Lessons presented are developmentally appropriate for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
